Gordon and Marilyn in March 2005 at his surprise 70th Birthday Party

About us

Gordon and Marilyn met in early 1988, the year after his wife Elizabeth passed away.  They were introduced by a mutual friend, Joe Geary from the Ben Franklin Store on Warwick Avenue where Marilyn was “keeping the books”.  In November 1989 they were married in Trinity Epsicopal Church in Cranston, and had their reception at the Quonset “O” Club.  They honeymooned in Australia, and have been keeping house(s) ever since.  For over 20 years they were Florida residents, but in November 2021 they sold their place in Palmetto, FL and again became Rhode Island residents.

About our Families

Gordon was born in 1935 in Bridgeport Connecticut, the second son of Marion Tower and Martha Stevens Wilmot.  He lived in Connecticut for the first three years of his life, then moved to Rhode Island where his dad got a new job in Providence.  Gordon went to Rhodes School in Cranston, then Norwood Avenue Jr. High, then Cranston (East) High School.  After one year at St. George’s School in Middletown RI (he needed to learn how to study), he went on to Wesleyan University in Middletown CT, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.  After working at United Aircraft Corporation in East Hartford CT for three years (where he learned computer programming), he joined the staff in the Watson Computing Lab at Brown University in Providence.  After seven years at Brown, he left to head Computer Service Consultants which he had started part-time while at Brown.  CSC evolved over the next twenty five years into a Payroll Processing Company.  In 1995 Gordon sold the company and has been happily retired ever since.

Marilyn was born in 1952 in Providence, Rhode Island, the second child of Harry and Lucile Burton Foster.  Her first years were spent at Meshanticut Park and Cranston West Jr/Sr High School in western Cranston.  Marilyn was involved in the CHSW band, playing the flute, and marching at football and basketball games to the school’s colors.  She went on to the University of Rhode Island where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  She worked briefly at the Stackbin Corporation and Benny’s, then began her career teaching pre-school children at the Salvation Army Day Care Center in Providence, where she remained until 1984 when she decided teaching was not her forte.  She started studying nights at the Community College of RI working toward an accounting degree.  She left teaching in 1984 and became the bookkeeper for the Ben Franklin store in Warwick, where her employer introduced her to Gordon.  They married in 1989 and settled in Warwick.  She attained the position of bookkeeper for the Providence Mutual Insurance Co. from which she retired in 1991.  They love to travel, and that’s what she’s done with Gordon ever since.
